Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical JR., a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Composer Lynn Ahrens and Librettist Stephen Flaherty. This MTI Musical Production will be performed at Dunham Hall on the campus of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville under Chris Kernan, Director and Amy Prince, Musical Director.

Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird.  Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him.  Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

Participation and casting in this program will depend on a successful audition. Throughout our 12-week rehearsal period for Seussicle Jr., students will have the opportunity to participate in a minimum of six educational experiences which will provide specialist guest training in performance elements relevant to our production of Seussicle Jr. These opportunities will be scheduled during, before or after pre-scheduled rehearsals. A final schedule of guest experiences will be shared with cast members at our first rehearsal or before.

Attending class rehearsals is a vital part of any successful musical production. Although every cast member will not be scheduled to attend all class rehearsals, simple training and research opportunities will be available at every rehearsal for those who would like to participate. Activities available at rehearsals will be shared with cast members ahead of time.
