Why Play Cello?

What Cello Lessons Actually Do for Kids

Parents often ask us whether music lessons are “worth it.” Here’s what we tell them: the research on taking any type of music lessons has been consistent for decades. Kids who study and instrument, including voice, perform better in school, build stronger social skills and develop a type of focus that’s hard to teach any other way. The cello, in particular, demands a lot from young and adult learners and will give back even more.

School Performance

Music training sharpens math reasoning, reading and memory. Kids who study an instrument tend to perform better across the board, not just in music class.

Social Confidence

Recitals, group lessons and shared progress teach kids how to work with others, handle nerves and feel proud of something they’ve built themselves.

Coordination

Playing cello required each hand to do something different at the same time. This type of bilateral coordination builds find motor skills that carry into so many other things, including sports!

Stick-to-it-ness

Learning an instrument, like cello, teaches kids that hard things get easier with practice. These lessons will stick with them long after the music does.

Some music schools may focus on one or the other, but at Tessitura Music, whether you’re a beginner at a young age or as an adult, we offer cello lessons for everyone. Our seasoned, Suzuki cello instructor will meet with you to learn more about you, your goals and will tailor lessons to help you succeed at any level.

We Teach Cello Lessons to Kids & Adults

Young Beginners

Kids can start as young as 4 or 5 on a smaller-sized instrument. We use teaching methods that match where they are developmentally so early lessons feel more like play than work. The goal is to build a love of music first and let the technique follow.

Adult Learners

It’s never too late to learn something new! Research shows that adults often progress faster than they think because they bring real intention into each lesson. Whether you’ve never held a bow or you played years ago, we’ll figure out a plan that works for you!
